AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF LEAKE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO LEVY AN ASSESSMENT, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ASSESSMENTS AND COURT COSTS, FOR EACH MISDEMEANOR CASE PROCESSED THROUGH THE JUSTICE COURT OF THE COUNTY; TO PROVIDE THAT THE AVAILS OF SUCH ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT SHALL BE USED TO FUND THE CRIMESTOPPERS PROGRAM WITHIN THE COUNTY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The Board of Supervisors of Leake County, Mississippi, by resolution duly adopted and entered on its minutes, may levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, in an amount not to exceed One Dollar ($1.00) per case for each misdemeanor case processed through the justice court of the county.
(2) The avails of the additional assessment imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be paid by the county to Crimestoppers of Leake County, Inc., for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Leake County, Mississippi.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
